The Bedford High School Ski Team finished its regular season on Thursday, February 15th at Nashoba Valley with 4 skiers earning recognition for the season out of the Massachusetts Omega Conference. The MIAA State Championship race will be at Berkshire East Ski Area on Tuesday, March 5th, with 160 private and public high school racers from throughout Massachusetts participating and looking to medal with a top ten finish.

Leading the girls was junior Maddie Filosa finishing 16th overall and securing a spot at the MIAA High School State Championships.  Libby Herzog finished in 26th place after a solid freshman year of varsity racing.

For the boys, senior Nick Schwartz had an 18th place finish and qualified as an alternate at the State Championships, narrowly missing out for the final conference spot by 6 points. Two other boys qualified outright for states, Kevin Murphy who had a 17th place finish at the final race and finished the season 12th in the conference, and Matt Carluccio with a 3rd place finish at the final race, ending the season 4th overall for the 2nd year in a row.  Carluccio finished the season with 390 out 400 race points, 7 points out of the top spot, behind Anders Fish from Nashoba, and Jack Preston from Winchester and Jake Frissora from Lincoln-Sudbury who both tied for 1st at 397 points.

As BHS juniors, Murphy will be participating in his first State Championship competition, Filosa her second, and Carluccio his third.

“It was a great season and I’m glad the kids who worked hard all year are being rewarded by making it to States,” said Coach Derek Johnson.  The team will also graduate several seniors this year, including Melissa Driscoll, Ashley Fallon, Julia Sepe, Olivia Geary, Nick Schwartz, Ian Miles, Jacob Wang, Jon Salem, Matt D’Ambra, Niko Galvis, Sean Philipson, Seren Parikh, Shane Meyer, Tim Reagan, and Chann Moon.
