Selectmen Call for Special Town Meeting on July 30

By Ben Oleksinski

The Selectmen approved a draft warrant calling for a July 30 Special Town Meeting, of which the chief concern is acquiring the 16 acres of land between Hartwell Road and Hanscom Airfield (referred to as the ‘naval hangar property’). The Town of Bedford had filed to delay a public auction in federal court. Now in a position to purchase the property, the town meeting will ask for approval from voters. Costs are unknown at this time, but would only occur if the acquisition moves forward. The warrant named an estimated value between $2 and $2.5 million.

Other warrant articles include a rezoning initiative in accordance with the ‘Navy property’ and a funding transfer to support a collective bargaining agreement for emergency communications officers. The Special Town Meeting will take place in the Bedford High School Auditorium on July 30 at 7:30 pm.
