Town Mulls Putting Dog Park on Permanent Agenda

By The Bedford Scallion

In an attempt to keep residents engaged in town government, a suggestion was floated to make the Dog Park discussions a permanent feature of town meeting.

In the good old days, if you wanted to fill an auditorium you needed to build a school, maybe buy an aircraft carrier.   All complicated subjects, but unlike the Cat Park, the Dog Park has unleashed passions on both sides that really turn out the crowds.

“No matter which side you’re on, it’s a great civics lesson, said one citizen, a Cat Park proponent, who is nothing if not jealous of the impressive turnout at recent meetings.

You can already see the wheels turning.  One of the first comments about the upcoming special town meeting was,  “We can put the Dog Park there.”   There are rumors that others are trying to capitalize on the passion.  Recently an idea was floated about a  PRO vs CON  dog park promotion from a local pizza shop.

Along those lines, please keep reading The Citizen for all the latest developments in the Dog Park debate.

Editor’s Note: While the Dog Park is not on the agenda for the July 30 Special Town Meeting (7:30 pm in the High School Auditorium), it is important that voters attend and participate in the Town’s decision about future use and ownership of the Navy hangar on Hartwell Road.
