ANNUAL LAWN PARTY

The annual lawn party in aid of St. Michael’s church of this town will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, at the West Bedford campgrounds. Various amusements and entertainments will be provided for those in attendance. The party will open at 12 o’clock noon and will continue to 11 p. m.

BEDFORD UPDATE

  • Mrs. Frank Murray is ill at the Deaconess hospital in Concord Junction.
  • Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Barnes are receiving congratulations on the birth of twin boys.
  • Chester MacLaughlin of Lynn, formerly of this town, is visiting with friends.
  • Miss Marjorie Dyer of New York has been enjoying a vacation with Bedford relatives.
  • Thomas Bell, the well-known section foreman, is confined to his home on South St. with diphtheria.
  • Francis J. Kelley, who enlisted in the army a short time ago spent the weekend with relatives on Concord Rd.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hodgen, of Crescent av. will shortly occupy the residence on South St. recently vacated by Mrs. Edith Webber.
  • It is with regret that we hear of the death of Lieut. James Mansfield of Concord, who was killed in action overseas.
  • Saturday of this week, Aug. 24, is the date set for local registration of all who have reached the age of 21 since June 5, the date of the last registration.
  • It is with regret the patrons of Lexington Park hear that Virginia Powell and John Gregory, the comedian, have accepted engagements elsewhere for the remainder of the season.

MECHANICAL TRAINING

Four young men were entrained last Thursday by the selection board of Division 29, made up of Bedford, Carlisle, Burlington, Billerica, Concord, Lincoln, and Woburn. They will take special mechanical training, Herbert L. Peterson of Concord goes to the New York State College for Teachers, Albany, N. Y., Joseph W. Poirier of North Billerica to the Franklin Union, in Boston. Daniel J. McGonigle of Woburn and William L. Fitzpatrick of Concord to Syracuse, N. Y.
