Bedford’s Summer Basketball League (BSBL) season ended in hard-fought match-ups in both Division A and Division B on Thursday, August 2. The Reservoir Dogs took the Division A title in their game against the Moonshiners, and the Undrafted bested the Lannisters in the Division B final. Rick Proulx was named Player of the Year.
The finals were held in the BHS gym because of anticipated stormy weather, but their games were played outdoors on the courts opposite the high school throughout the season.
About the League
For the past 6 years, the Bedford Recreation Department has sponsored a men’s summer basketball league, fielding 10 teams this year. The league is open to Bedford residents and Bedford High School alumni.
To the uninitiated, basketball is a winter sport played on parquet by NBA pros, or in college gymnasiums where March Madness brackets move toward their final game in April. To the teams, however, basketball is a year-round game, needing nothing more than a pair of hoops, a ball, and a team of willing participants.
Coming Up
The Co-Ed Slow-Pitch Softball League playoffs haven’t been scheduled but will take place soon. Their regular-season games are played on Wednesday and Sunday evenings at the field near the JGMS tennis courts, or at a field on Hartwell Road.
