Although she will not begin her new job until October 1, incoming Town Manager Sarah Stanton was welcomed to Bedford at the Selectmen’s August 20 meeting. The occasion was an item on the agenda reviewing Stanton’s employment contract, although it could not be formally approved at this meeting pending Town Counsel’s legal review.

Chair William Moonan welcomed Stanton, noting her recent appointment after a very competitive search process. “There were a lot of good candidates,” he said. The Selectmen chose Stanton, currently the budget director for the City of Cambridge, on July 2. She was previously the Finance Director and Auditor for the City of Salem, where she lives. She holds a Masters degree in Public Administration from Northeastern University.

For her part, Stanton thanked the Selectmen and expressed an eagerness to get started. “I’m very excited to be here. I’m excited to get to work,” she said.

According to the terms of the contract, Stanton will be paid $185,000 a year and receive an automobile allowance, annual leave, personal days off, and benefits. She will work regular business hours but is required to be available as needed, as was outgoing Town Manager Richard Reed. Stanton will not be required to move to Bedford under the terms of the contract.
