Letter to the Editor ~ September 18, 2019: Bear Facts

September 19, 2018

By Merrell Bergin

The Bear always loses and its a human’s fault.

PLEASE, keep your pets indoors, take in every bird feeder, close and lock all doors and do not put trash bins out until the morning of pickup. A bear can pick up food scents from long distances and can get trapped or destroy a car trying to get inside to find sweets or even food wrappers.

They are preparing for hibernation and will stop at nothing to pack on the calories they need to survive. Bears just want to be left alone and EAT.

Not paying attention will lead to injuries (or worse) for people or pets you love. And in the end, the bear will be destroyed because of YOUR carelessness. Remembers, the bears lived here centuries before you did. Would you want any of this on your conscience?

Editor’s Note: A former Bedford resident, Merrell Bergin now lives in an area of Colorado with frequent visits by bears
