Selectmen to Hold Solar Panel and Cable TV Hearings on Monday Night

September 29, 2018

By Meredith McCulloch

The Selectmen will meet in Executive Session at 7:00 to discuss strategy regarding pending litigation. Afterward, they will hold two public hearings on proposed bylaw changes that are expected to be on the warrant for Special Town Meeting in November. The first, at 7:30 pm, is on a proposed bylaw change that would permit solar panels in the historic district. The second, at 8:15 pm, is a bylaw change that would rename the Cable TV Committee as the Community Media Committee and change the description of their responsibilities.

Solar Panels Permitted at 7:30 pm

In light of the policy of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to encourage use of solar energy systems, and the policy of the Town of Bedford to encourage attaining net zero energy consumption, roof mounted solar panels shall be permitted within the Historic District without necessity of seeking approval, so long as such panels match the color of the roof, are installed parallel to the surface of the roof to which they are attached, are set back from the edges of the roof to minimize their visibility, and all conduits are hidden from view.
