The Town of Bedford will celebrate Bedford Day on September 22, 2018. You’ll need traffic updates, parade details, information about Citizen of the Year, the Fair, the health screenings, the Danny Oates Memorial Road Race, the Bedford Arts and Crafts Society Regional Art Show, the Friends of the Library Book Sale, and inclement weather information (although the prognosis is for a wonderful autumn day!)

Traffic Update from the Bedford Police Department

The Great Road (from Great Road & Loomis Street to Great Road at North Road & Concord Road) will be closed for the parade at 10 AM until approximately 12 PM. Traffic will be detoured around the event during those times. Loomis Street will be closed at 9:30 AM for parade staging. There will be an extension of the overnight parking ban on The Great Road throughout the morning until after the parade ends. Any motor vehicles found parked on The Great Road the morning of September 22, will be cited and subject to tow if we cannot locate the owners. Please plan accordingly.

Bedford Day Parade
The BHS marching band, local groups, and organizations turn The Great Road into a sea of color and excitement for Bedford Day! Begins at the intersection of The Great Rd. and Loomis Street then proceeds north on The Great Road and finishes at Mudge Way.  The parade steps off at 10:30 am.

Activities, food, entertainment, and friends are abundant at the annual Bedford Day Fair! While set-up begins early in the morning, the FAIR opens at 10 am and runs through 2:30 pm at the Town Hall Complex, 10 Mudge Way, adjacent to Town Hall and across the street from the Library.

The Town’s annual Cultural Festival will blend with Bedford Day this year, with a great band marching in the parade, and a full program of world music and dance performances.

The Bedford Board of Health is partnering with Emerson Hospital to provide free health screenings on Bedford Day. Free screenings include blood tests for cholesterol, PSA and thyroid; pulmonary function testing and blood pressure screening provided by Emerson Hospital.

Danny Oates Memorial 5k Road Race & 2.5 K Fitness Walk – Click this link to learn more
A tradition for 24 years! The race starts at 8:30 AM (registration at 7:30 AM) at John Glenn Middle School.  A Kids’ Fun Run will be held prior to the 5k, with registration at 7:00 AM, and the  Run at 7:30 on the BHS track.  The Danny Oates Memorial Race, sponsored by the Frank W. Thompson Lodge, Masonic Association, was founded to pay tribute the beloved son of Robert and Judy Oates of Bedford, MA.  Bob is a retired member of the Bedford Fire Department and member of various civic organizations; his son Brian currently serves as one of our local firefighters.  All proceeds of the race fund the Danny Oates Memorial Scholarship.

Friends Of The Bedford Free Public Library Book Sale Click this link to learn more
The Friends of the Bedford Free Public Library are holding a three day Fall Book Sale.  The sale begins on Friday, September 21st from 1-5 pm and continues Saturday, September 22nd from 10-4 pm.  On Sunday, September 23rd, the sale hours are from 1 to 4 pm. The Book Sale is held rain or shine at the library located at 7 Mudge Way in Bedford, MA.

 Bedford Day Severe Storm Information
The Bedford Day Fair and Parade are held rain or shine. If severe weather threatens the safety of participants, the events will be postponed to September 29. The decision to postpone would be made by 8:00 a.m. on September 22 and the information would be posted on the Town website (www.bedfordma.gov) and recorded on the Recreation Department answering announcement (781-275-1392).

The Severe Storm date applies to the Bedford Day Fair and Parade Only!  The Road Race, Book Sale and Art Exhibit will be held rain or shine.
