Over the last two weeks, Bedford High Volleyball has played it all

  • 5 set loss to Tewksbury
  • 3 set win over Westford Academy
  • 3 set loss against undefeated Acton-Boxborough
  • 5 set win over Arlington

I think that runs the gamut of all the possible feelings you can have. But I will tell you this, they put their heart and soul on the court every time.

Friday’s five-set win over “Frenemy” Arlington was all about heart. Both coaches have known each other for ages. Both teams have friends on the other squad who they play with on volleyball teams in the off-season. So to win this one game is a matter of pride for both sides.

Kristina Parenti had her best game as setter spreading the ball evenly around including her top three cannoneers – Kate Winkler (8 kills), Lauren Harrell (7 kills), and Cam Rackey (6 kills)

The hero of this game was clearly Mallory Ferland. OH SURE, everyone else made great plays, but from start to finish Mallory had her game face on and refused to quit. Mallory plays the back line and her main chore is to stop rocket-powered shots from hitting the floor – “a dig”. She ended the night with an unheard of 19–twice the number of her nearest teammate. These digs were not just saves, but the touch on the ball was nice and soft to the team setter Kristina Parenti, who then fed it on to her teammate for a KILL SHOT. As a team, Bedford recorded 52 digs, and 30 kills.

Mallory also had 5 aces, second on the team. When it came down to the final 4 points, who was serving? Mallory.
