Curbside Yard Waste Collection Underway ~ Compost Center Open to Residents on November 10 and 17

November 6, 2018

Submitted by Ed McGrath, Bedford’s Recycling Coordinator

The Bedford Department of Public Works has started the curbside collection of yard waste will continue the collection the next two weeks and the week after Thanksgiving.

Residents should place the yard waste out in tall paper bags or open barrels with no lids on Monday. Any yard waste in plastic bags will be left behind. Republic Services will bring the yard waste to the town’s Compost Center.

“Put the yard waste out on Monday. Republic will be coming around at various times during the week, said Ed McGrath, Bedford’s Recycling Coordinator. “It would be helpful if residents kept their yard waste bags separate from their trash carts and recycling containers.”

In addition, the Compost Center at 108 Carlisle Road will be open on Saturday, November 10th and November 17th, and the first two Saturdays of December from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The center will also be open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday: November 7th, 14th, and 21st, and on December 5th.

Bedford’s Compost Center accepts leaves, grass clippings, flowering plants, pine needles, and garden trimmings.

Residents bringing yard waste to the Compost Center can use plastic bags but the bags must be emptied and taken home for disposal or reuse. Residents can also bring tree branches and put them in the brush pile.

The DPW will provide curbside yard waste pick up in the spring during the week of April 8th.
