A Bedford resident enjoying a post-Thanksgiving hike with the family’s dogs discovered an illegal hunting stand near a marked trail in the Hartwell Town Forest on Friday, November 23.

Neighbors have heard shots recently but thought they originated at Hanscom Field or on Massport land.

The Bedford Police were notified. According to Chief Robert Bongiorno an officer cleared the area and requested DPW assistance in removing the platform. A directed police patrol will monitor the area for illegal hunting activity.

Section 46.22 of Bedford’s Town Charter, addresses hunting: A person shall not hunt any bird or mammal within the Town, except on the Concord River during the applicable open season. A person shall not otherwise discharge any firearm on public land, except as provided by law.
