The GSA auction of the Navy hangar on the Bedford side of Hanscom Field opened with Bidder 4 taking the lead with a bid of $5,200,000 at 7:24 Central Time (CT) on Tuesday morning, November 20.
After a rapid-fire series of 7 bids, Bidder 6 became the high bidder at 1:43 pm (CT) with a new high bid of $6,110,000, an increase of $910,000 in less than 7 hours.
According to GSA protocol, the high bid must remain unchallenged for 24 hours, until 1:43 pm (CT) on Wednesday, November 21, in order for the auction to end.
Town Manager Sarah Stanton spoke briefly about the auction during Sunday’s ‘Meet and Greet’ sponsored by the Bedford League of Women Voters and the Bedford Free Public Library.
Stanton noted that there is a lot of curiosity about the auction and its bidders at Town Hall. The GSA has referred interested parties to the Town for additional information. Several have reached out to the town, but no one has revealed their bidder number.
When asked about the Town’s response to the eventual winning bid, Stanton said that the final decision will be up to the Selectmen, and will depend on how the winning proposal fits within the neighborhood and current zoning.
