When and How will the GSA’s Navy Hangar Auction Close?

November 12, 2018

By Julie McCay Turner

With the GSA auction of the Navy hangar on Hartwell Road expected to end at 3:58 PM Central Time on Tuesday, November 13, The Bedford Citizen reached out to Paul Hughes, a public information officer in the agency’s Boston office, with questions about the close of the auction.

A total of 8 bidders have been involved. Bidder 6 was at the top of the list at 3:58 PM on Monday, November 12, with a bid of $2,710,000.

According to Hughes, the auction will close after an Inactivity Period where there are no bids for a 24-hour period after the posted closing time, 3:58 pm Central Time on  [Tuesday] November 13, 2018.

If a higher bid is made within the Inactivity Period, the auction will extend for an additional 24 hours and the ‘countdown clock’ on the website will adjust accordingly. Each time a higher bid is placed during an Inactivity Period, the auction will extend for another 24 hours, although the auction may not close on a federal holiday or a weekend.

When the auction closes, the online system (https://bit.ly/2DAVFiT) will automatically update the property status from active to closed.

Once the auction closes, the bidder will be notified, and their bid must be accepted by the GSA.

The property will be transferred to its new owner typically within 60 days of the acceptance of the high bid. Title to the property will be conveyed through a quitclaim deed.

In a final question, The Citizen asked whether the bidders knew of the zoning change voted at Special Town Meeting on July 30, 2018. Hughes replied that bidders have been advised to contact the Town regarding zoning matters, per page 4 in the auction’s Invitatation for Bids, revised on October 1 (https://bit.ly/2T4ArPf).

ZONING-Verification of the present zoning and determination of permitted uses, along with compliance of the Property for any proposed future use, shall be the responsibility of the Bidder. The Government makes no representation in regard to zoning matters. Any inaccuracies or changes in the zoning information shall not be cause for adjustment or rescission of any Agreement of Sale.
