Half-time at Bedford’s varsity basketball home opener held a surprise for local photographer Jeff Hoyland.

Speaking on behalf of more than 150 community families and organizations, Susan Markey DiGangi took the microphone to thank Hoyland who has selflessly given so much to Bedford, particularly its young athletes.

“In this season of giving, and in just over a week,” DiGangi said, “Bedford came together with an outpouring of support and gratitude, for Jeff Hoyland who has generously dedicated his time and talents to what seems like EVERY event in Bedford over the last several years.  Many of us believe he must have a clone!

“Tonight, we are here to honor and thank you, Jeff Hoyland, she continued. “Thank you for all that you have done for our community, for capturing and sharing special moments through your photography that we will all have for a lifetime.  Jeff, we are truly grateful for you and appreciate all that you do!”

Dozens of beautiful sentiments have been shared about Hoyland, especially over the last week noted DiGangi.  “He is so dedicated!” “He’s unbelievably talented!” “We are so fortunate to have him!” “He is an inspiration to all.” “Jeff is truly the best!”

One working parent shared that she often misses her child’s games because of her work schedule, and Hoyland’s game pictures mean the world to her. “They make me as if I was there.”

In thanking the community via social media, Hoyland said on Tuesday, ” When you grow up in a military family, you understand that a parent might be away on a mission, and there are no aunts and uncles around to come to your event, it is nice to have an adopted uncle step in and take pictures.”

Di Gangi presented several gifts – purchased with the generous contributions by many of the people attending the home opener: a powerful new lens for Hoyland’s camera, Lyft cards to facilitate getting to out of town games, and a selection of gift cards from Amazon and local businesses.

And, like any good photographer, Hoyland took the new lens in stride and captured even greater second-half images, including one of the ‘nieces and nephews.’
