Senior, Pete Kapanides won MVP honors at the Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union IAABO Board 95 Holiday Tournament scoring 30 points

The year started out rough for the BHS Boys Varsity Basketball team. A lot of new players on Varsity.   A lot of hard losses.  The Bucs are finally starting to gel as a team with a win over Greater Lowell in The Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union IAABO Board 95 Holiday Tournament, winning  69 to 61.

Pete Kapanides had a monster game and won MVP by scoring 30 points.  Earlier in the season. Pete was barely a blip on the stats board.  This game was different, and he scored from the paint at will, typically draped with two or three Gryphon defenders.

None of this would have been possible if the rest of the Buccaneers had not righted the ship.  Earlier in the year, the Bucs could not hit many shots from three-point land and opposing defensemen crowded the paint and denied offensive rebounds.

Chaddon Hill started off the Bedford cannons with the first 3-point shot.  Chaddon had three 3-point buckets in just the first quarter.  Jeffrey Mascoli joined the barrage with two 3-pointers of his own.

Bucs held a 32-28 lead at halftime, but the Greater Lowell Gryphons stormed back to take the lead and stretched it to 8 points by the end of the 3rd quarter.  It took 5 Buccaneers shooting 22 points in the 4th quarter for Bedford to claim victory.

Ibrahim Muhammad-Denson’s leadership as point guard was undeniable as he scored 9 points, but more importantly, he captained the quick passing on the perimeter which opened up the middle for the Bucs drive to the hoop.  Brendan Jones was the other threat underneath the basket and scored 12 points front close range.

The boys basketball team is back into DCL action on Friday, January 4th at 7 pm against Boston Latin at home in Bedford.
