Massport and the consulting firm Epsilon Associates issued a 135-page Environmental Assessment for development at the North Airfield in Bedford on September 26, 2018. In addition to project descriptions and dimensions, charts, and maps, the Epsilon report includes letters of concern from the Town of Bedford, along with residents’ comments.

The North Airfield Project, as described in the Environmental Assessment

Bedford’s North Airfield is projected to include 55,000 square feet of T-hangar space, a new taxilane, and up to 110,000 square feet of corporate hangar space.

Constructed on a 7-acre parcel adjacent to Instrumentation Laboratory, Bedford’s new T-hangar parcel would be located somewhat less than 1,000 feet from the Hartwell Farms neighborhood, and would be accessed from a gate on Hartwell Road. These T-hangars would replace the Pine Hill T-hangars (located just off Virginia Road) that would be demolished to make way for a new corporate hangar in Concord.

The North Airfield corporate hangar would be built on another 7-acre parcel adjacent to the Navy parcel presently up for auction by the GSA. This corporate hangar could be accessed through its own Hartwell Road gate.

The pair of 7-acre Massport proposals, taken together with the 16-acre Navy auction parcel, would total 30 contiguous acres slated for development.

Next HFAC Meeting:  Tuesday, February 19, 2019,7pm, at the Boston MedFlight Facility, 150 Hanscom Drive, Bedford, near the Civil Air Terminal. A short tour of the new facility will be given.  All Hanscom area towns’ residents are invited to attend the meeting and tour.
