Running for School Committee was not on my to-do list but the more I thought about it the more I realized I have something to offer this town and its children. As a fairly new resident to Bedford, I was quick to call this town my home. I am a wife and a mother to two young children and was drawn to Bedford because of their outstanding schools.
Prior to becoming a mother, I spent over fifteen years in education. I worked as a Special Education teacher before becoming a School Counselor. The well-being of children has been the main focus of my career and continues to play an even bigger role now that I am a parent. My background as an educator and my own experience as a mother gives me a multifaceted lens through which to view the issues and topics in schools today.
I am equally invested in the academic challenges that face many students and in their social and emotional development as they learn to navigate their own lives. It is my hope that as a member of the school committee I will be able to assist in the continued excellence that Bedford provides to their students. It would be a great honor to play a role in ensuring that all Bedford children are educated, supported, and recognized for the unique individuals that they are.
Editor’s Note: Jill Marquis pulled papers to run for School Committee on Friday; they will need to be returned for certification on January 16 in order for her to appear on the March 9 Town Election ballot.
