Eight student-athletes, one coach and two championship teams, representing five decades of excellence, comprise the latest class of inductees into the Bedford High School Sports Hall of Fame.
The induction dinner and ceremony are scheduled for Saturday night, May 18, beginning at 6 pm in the St. Michael Parish Center, 90 Concord Road. Tickets are $25 and may be reserved through the athletic director’s office at BHS.
Members of the class – the seventh group inducted since the Hall of Fame was launched in 2006 – are:
- Kristen Baratta ’12, a three-sport varsity athlete for eight seasons, including six as a Dual County League all-star.
- Michelle Busa ’83, a dominant three-sport high school athlete who is still among the leading all-time basketball scorers at Springfield College.
- Jim Byrnes, whose teams won more than 250 games, including 24 in the post-season, in his 20-year boys’ basketball coaching career.
- Jeff Eagles ’87, DCL diving champion for four years who went on to receive all-American honors in the sport at the Pennsylvania State University.
- Olivia Jameson ’13, a four-year DCL swimming all-star who also starred at ale University, earning All-Ivy League first-team honors as a junior and senior.
- Tom McManus ’76, who dominated Dual County League golf for three years, was a CYO and New England Junior golf champion and became a golf professional.
- Steve Mead ’91, a two-sport BHS all-star athlete who played college hockey at Skidmore and professionally in Europe, and later coached high school hockey at his alma mater.
- Herman Rice ’87, who starred in football, hockey, and lacrosse in high school and played defensive back at Springfield College.
- Mike Rubin ’10, who led the BHS basketball team to the MIAA North sectional championship and later starred at Fitchburg State College.
- The players and coaches of the 2012 state champion girls’ tennis team and the 1979 sectional champion boys’ soccer team will be inducted.
In addition, the selection committee also voted to induct Mike Rosenberg, founder of the Hall of Fame, in recognition of his contributions to BHS athletics for more than four decades.
