When the BHS Girls Basketball team hit the court at Manchester Essex High School for the first round of MIAA playoffs, they sported black t-shirts with ONE TEAM ONE DREAM on the back in letters so large even their grandparents could read the words from the stands.
One Team, One Dream turned out to not just be a phrase but a whole new spirit to the squad. I’ve watched them play the whole season, and they never were as fierce and intense as they were last night in the 53- 47 win.
Although the Fans in the Stands were screaming SHOOT IT SHOOT IT anytime there was an open shot, the Buccaneers were patient and methodical on offense, and maintained the lead for most of the game.

Seniors Lauren Legere and Joelle DeLia were Fire and Ice.
Lauren brought the firepower and threw in 24 of Bedford’s 50 points. She was firing the ball in from everywhere on the court. But more impressive was the fact that she didn’t stand there and admire her shots going in, she was already hustling back on defense.
Joelle was in-your-face Ice any time Manchester Essex tried the reel off a hot streak. Although Manchester Essex had the height, Bedford had the speed, and Joelle was racing from player to player to chill any quick passing opportunities. When Bedford took the lead in the final minutes, and the game turned into a foul-fest, it was Joelle, who calmly dropped two free throws to seal the game.
Frosh Katherine Vaughan scored 12 points even though she was swarmed by the Hornets most of the night.
Next Game ~ Friday in Amesbury ~ Calling all Fans in the Stands!
This Friday, Bedford returns to Amesbury, where last year’s Bucs stole a come-from-behind win. I expect this game to be just as exciting.
