Three members of the Bedford High School Ski Team, seniors Matt Carluccio and Maddie Filosa, along with freshman Jay Schwartz, competed in the MIAA High School Championship at Wachusett Ski Area on February 27th.  They raced in both Giant Slalom and Slalom events against about 250 male and female ski racers from public and private schools throughout Massachusetts; the skiers represented all 10 Massachusetts regional conferences.

Filosa started the day off for the Bedford skiers, placing a strong 33rd out of the 87th starting position in the morning Giant Slalom Women’s race.

The Bedford men did not fare as well when Carluccio had to recover from a tough start to his Giant Slalom run to salvage a top 50 finish and Schwarz fell during his run and did not finish.

In the afternoon slalom run, Filosa skied to a 57th place finish in the Women’s race.  Carluccio skied a stronger race in the afternoon slalom finishing in 39th place and Schwartz rounded out the day for the Bedford skiers with a solid run placing 64th.

Overall it was great day and season for the Bedford skiers.
