2018-2019 Team Roster

  • Class of 2019: Tri-Captains Madi Belbute, Lauren Murphy, and Marissa Vitale; team members DD Clement, Taylor Mason, Mason Otte, Kiran Sheth, and Taylor Simons
  • Class of 2020 – Anaise Gaillard
  • Class of 2022 – Hannah Golaboski, Lily Hill and Sydney McElrath

Why was 208-2019 such an amazing year?

If you’ve been following the BHS Cheer team this year, you’ve already heard about their achievements:

  • DCL League Champs and Grand Champs out of 13 teams total
  • Shepherd Hill 1st place coed (2nd place overall out of 48 teams)
  • Milford 2nd place coed (3rd place overall out of 32 teams)
  • Regional Competition- 1st place coed division
  • State Competition- 2nd place coed division qualifying for both New England’s and Nationals
  • New England Competition- 8th place coed division

What’s behind the team’s success?

First of all, there was a commitment to success on the part of each member of the team.

“You have 2 minutes and thirty seconds to give it all you got,” said Tri-Captain Madi Belbute. “No matter how much you think you can’t make it, you push through it to get that perfect routine. It’s not like other sports where you make a mistake and have time left in the game to make up for it. Once a stunt falls or you bust your tumbling, it reflects on the score sheet. But that feeling after you hit a routine is like nothing else.”

The team has a ‘work harder’ attitude.

“It often feels like we have to work 10x harder to be recognized as a successful varsity sport at BHS,” said ‘flyer’ Krian Sheth, “but now I think we feel like we’ve finally made it.”

The girls have for the most part been working together for four years.

Most of us on the team, including me, are seniors who have been working together to reach this goal for the past 4 years,” said Tri-captain Marissa Vitale. “We finally made our dream come true even with all odds against us we pushed through and overcame everything. This is the first time BHS cheer has made nationals in history and I couldn’t be prouder of this team… my family.”

And, the team appreciates their fans!

“Our fan section isn’t that big, but it’s the most important,” added Taylor Mason, a base. “Our families, parents, and siblings, that’s pretty much all we’ve had for the past 4 years. We’ve tried to have more people come but it’s almost like our sport is last on the list. It’s ok though because our fan section is the loudest anyways!”
