Besides offering students four different electives in robotics, Bedford High School (BHS) also offers students the opportunity to participate in their VEX Robotics team. This team is open to all members of the BHS community.

Beginning each fall when school resumes, the students do a detailed study of this year’s game before beginning to work on designing their robot for competition. Students meet after-school to work together building up to two different designs to bring to the competition.

The team competes in two events during the competition season – one in November and one in January – and additional off-season event in May.

This year, the students were awarded the Judges Award while competing at North Andover High School in January. This award is given to one high school team at the competition who has shown a detailed engineering notebook, exhibited a creative design process, and shows enthusiasm to try new things. The team was very excited that their hard work was recognized!

Bucs Robotics is a student-driven club. It is up to the members of the team to make all decisions relating to the design and build of the robot.

As they work through the engineering design process, students often find that they have reimagined how something will work and troubleshoot ideas on how to overcome obstacles.

Students are also responsible for driving the fundraising work that must be done in order to pay team registrations, competition fees, and material costs. The team would like to recognize our corporate and individual sponsors who made this season possible: Resolution Development, Formulatrix, Callahan’s Karate, Ginger Japanese Restaurant, Heinrich Kochling, Alper Periodontics and Implants, and Joan Turnberg & Joel Parks.

The team also would like to express our thanks to our families and friends who have supported us and attended our competitions this season.

If you are a BHS student interested in joining Bucs Robotics next season, we’d love to connect with you. Please reach out to teachers John O’Connor or Sarah Leshay at the high school to be added to our contact list.

We’re looking forward to the release of next season’s challenge!
