Water Meter Replacement to Begin Soon

Submitted by the Department of Public Works

The Town of Bedford Water Department is replacing water meters for residential and small business customers during the next several months. The Town Water Department owns the meters and electronic reading devices and will need entry to each property to replace the meter.

Please do not call to schedule an appointment unless you have been notified by a letter to do so. We will be replacing meters one area at a time. It is anticipated that this effort will be completed by the end of the year 2020.

The Town of Bedford has contracted Mass Installation, Inc. (MII) to perform the meter replacements.

MII will be sending notifications, with their logo and Bedford’s Town seal, to set up an appointment to replace your meter – PLEASE RESPOND TO THAT NOTIFICATION. The appointment will typically take less than one hour and will be scheduled at your convenience.

Water meters mechanically measure the water after it enters your property and the water moves through the device. The meter is usually located where the water service connects to a building, usually in the basement,  on the wall closest to the street.

In many homes, the current meters and electronic reading devices were installed many years ago and need to be read manually.

The project will benefit single family homes, dwellings and small businesses in Bedford. The meter replacement is furnished without cost to property owners and the new meter will avoid in-person meter-reading visits and estimated bills.

When a representative from MII arrives at your home or facility for your scheduled appointment, they will have Mass Installation identification.  Do not let anyone into your home without proper identification.
