Bedford Music Department Spring Concerts

Submittted on behalf of the Bedford Schools’ Performing Arts Department

The Performing Arts Department of the Bedford Public Schools is gearing up for the spring concert season, with eight student concerts between May 15 and May 30. Bedford POMS is sponsoring a post-concert reception after the two BHS concerts, to honor seniors and scholarship recipients.

The youngest musicians at Davis School kick things off with their Spring Concerts, held at 9:30am on Wednesday, May 15; Thursday, May 16; and Friday, May 17, in the Davis gymnasium. Parents should check the school and BEST newsletters for more information on which classes will perform on which days.

Bedford High School will hold its vocal concert on Thursday, May 16, featuring its concert choir, treble choir, and honors choir, as well as the three a cappella groups: Rolling Tones, the mixed group led by choral director Katrina Faulstich; and the student-led Bellachords (treble voices) and Bucappella (lower voices). The instrumental concert will follow on Wednesday, May 22, featuring the BHS concert band, orchestra, jazz band, and chamber ensemble.

The 2019 music scholarship awards, sponsored by Bedford Patrons of Music Students (POMS), will be awarded during the BHS concerts. Five scholarships are given annually to graduating seniors: the Phinney Vocal Award, Toland Band Award, Maffa Orchestra Award, Barry Low Spirit Award, and the C. Emerson Fox Memorial Award. POMS invites all concertgoers to a dessert reception in the lobbyafter the May 16 and May 22 concerts, to celebrate our graduates and scholarship winners.

JGMS has found success in recent years separating its concerts into Grade 6 ensembles and Grade 7/8 ensembles. The band, chorus, and orchestra for Grade 6 will perform onTuesday, May 21, at JGMS, while the 7th and 8th grade groups, the rock band, and the jazz band will perform on Thursday, May 30, in the BHS auditorium.

The fifth-grade band, fourth- and fifth-grade orchestra, and fifth-grade chorus from Lane School will perform Tuesday, May 28 at BHS.
