Submitted by Bedford Boy Scout Troop 194
After many months of instruction and preparation, Bedford’s Troop 194 brought the Arthur Smith Commander’s Trophy home to Bedford for the thirteenth time. The scouting competition is held annually by the American Legion at Camp Collier in Gardner, Massachusetts. The weekend program consists of a series of events, which are designed to provide a competitive arena in which the boys demonstrate their skills in Scout-craft, teamwork, and Scout Spirit.
Representing Troop 194 at this year’s Camporee were the Amish Electricians Patrol and the Paw Patrol. A total of 30 patrols from 18 troops participated in the numerous competitions.
Our Troop leaders helped support the Camporee by staffing two events: the brand-new life ring toss and a traditional first aid skill station.
Troop 194 won five first-place ribbons, five second-place ribbons, one third-place ribbon, and one fourth-place ribbon. Due to the patrols’ overall success, the Paw Patrol came in first overall with the Amish Electricians in Second.
At the troop level, Troop 194 won the ribbon for third best gateway and the second best campsite.
Trop 194 was encouraged to have done so well and to win the Arthur Smith Commander’s Trophy. The trophy will be on display at the American Legion in Bedford now until next year Camporee.
Troop 194 wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to our long-time sponsors and friend – the Anthony Hunt Hamilton American Legion Post 221.
