Compiled by The Bedford Citizen

The Department of Public Works recently published Invitations to Bid on three projects: dredging Fawn Lake, as well as the boardwalks alongside Davis Road and at the end of Lantern Lane, with all bids due on August 29.

For Dredging Fawn Lake

Sealed bids for the hydraulic dredging of Fawn Lake will be received by the Selectmen in the office of the Department of Public Works, 314 Great Road, Bedford, Massachusetts 01730 until Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 9 am (prevailing time), and at that time and place will be publicly opened and read aloud.

The project includes hydraulic in-lake dredging, slurry dewatering by mobile filter press, treatment of decant for turbidity before release back into Fawn Lake, off-site disposal of pressed solids, installation of a cofferdam, excavation, dewatering, earthwork, siltation control, steel sheeting and other incidental items necessary to complete the required work.

The official bid text for Fawn Lake dredging has been published in a print newspaper and appropriately posted. Contract documents will also be available electronically at no cost by emailing [email protected] or by registering online to download bid documents at www.bedfordma.gov/bids. Bidders requesting Contract Documents by mail shall include a non refundable check payable to the Town of Bedford in the amount of $20.00 per set to cover costs of handling and mailing.

For the Davis Road and Lantern Lane Boardwalks

Sealed bids for the boardwalks will be received by the Selectmen in the office of the Department of Public Works, 314 Great Road at 10 am (prevailing time) on Thursday, August 29, 2019 and at that time and place will be publicly opened and read aloud.

The bid for the Davis Road boardwalk calls for a modular prefabricated steel framed wooden boardwalk, 6′ wide by 1,200′ long.

The Lantern Lane pedestrian bridge will be 6′ wide by 20′ long to replace an unofficial ‘bog’ bridge that appeared anonymously in 2012. Click this link to read Kim Siebert MacPhail’s first article about it.

The official bid text for both bridges has been published in a print newspaper and appropriately posted. Contract documents will also be available by registering online to download bid documents at www.bedfordma.gov/bids. Click to select the bid that you are interested in viewing/printing.

Contract Documents may be examined and/or obtained in person at the Department of Public Works, 314 Great Road, Bedford, Massachusetts 01730, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
