Paper shredding and the collection of electronic waste will headline the Bedford Department of Public Works Fall recycling event. The popular collection is scheduled for Saturday, October 5th from 9 a.m. to noon at the DPW facility, 314 Great Road.

The other materials being collected that day are scrap metal, rigid plastics, fluorescent lamps, mercury-containing items, sealed lead-acid batteries and rechargeable batteries, propane tanks (grill and camp), tires (cars, SUVs, light trucks) and fire extinguishers.

Once again, paper will be shredded into confetti on site. There is a limit of five file boxes per car.

RMG Enterprises will be collecting a wide range of electronic waste such as household electronics like stereos and small portable kitchen appliances (e.g., blenders, toasters and coffee makers); Televisions, computer monitors, computers, laptops, printers, and other office equipment; mobile devices, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers.

“RMG will take most anything with a plug or rechargeable battery,” said Ed McGrath, Bedford’s Recycling Coordinator. “RMG will not accept refrigerators, full-size ovens, dryers, or washing machines.”

Rigid plastic items being collected include recycling bins, laundry baskets, plastic crates, 5-gallon pails, yard toys, broken plastic chairs, and other outdoor furniture items.
