Celebrating the Bedford Fire Department

A departmental portrait

During the Bedford Fire Department’s inaugural swearing-in and recognition ceremony on Thursday evening, firefighters, families, and friends gathered in the Great Room at Old Town Hall to celebrate a pair of promotions, three recruits, and ‘Stork Pin’ awards to three Firefighter/Paramedics. Town Manager Sarah Stanton joined Fire Chief David Grunes in presenting the awards.

Chief Grunes told the assembled Firefighters, Paramedics, families, and children just how proud he is of the department, and how confident he is in their professionalism. “I don’t say it enough,” he noted, adding that he’s honored to be working with them.

The department’s new Captain is John Daniels, and Mark Casey is its new Lieutenant.

Welcoming New Recruits

Three new Firefighter/Paramedics were welcomed: Carla Sahrbeck, Bedford’s first female recruit, Charles Dias who joined the department the day before the ceremony, and Chris Snowden who has been in the department for several months.

On Friday, Town Manager Stanton said in a Tweet, ” I’ve participated in many events throughout my career…few were as heartwarming as being a part of tonight’s first-ever swearing-in ceremony for @BedfordFD. So much to celebrate. Officer promotions. New firefighters. New babies. Happy kids & families in the crowd. Just the best.”
