For the second year, the Bedford School Department will offer English as a Second Language (ESL) for adult residents whose first language is other than English.
Registration begins at 6 pm on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, in the Bedford High School cafeteria. Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings starting on January 8th from 6:00-8:00 for 14 weeks. There will be no classes during February or April vacation.
Three classes are offered: Beginner English, Intermediate English, Advanced English/Speaking.
The tuition is free, and all Bedford residents over the age of 18 are welcome to attend.
Bedford’s first Adult ESL program enrolled 53 students, with 17 more on a waitlist. The program was supported by 3 ESL teachers and 7 volunteers.
Bedford is an increasingly diverse community, with 52 languages represented in the Bedford Schools in 2019; Mandarin, Spanish, Korean, and Russian were the most widely spoken.
