During the repair of a section of sewer pipe on South Road Friday morning, the water line feeding Bedford Research Foundation laboratories was accidentally severed. We were in the middle of an experiment that would continue through the weekend. Panic began to set in.
But, thanks to the generosity of our neighbor, Leary’s Auto Repair, and the quick response of the Bedford DPW’s Water and Sewer Division, a temporary water supply was immediately provided by running a hose from Leary’s to the laboratory.
Next, the water line itself was uncovered and repaired within about five hours! What could have been a big problem for our weekend experiment was averted by the diligent efforts of DPW personnel and the ever-cheerful Bedford Police traffic detail – all working in the freezing cold to help us recover from the problem.
We know from experience that a broken water line would have had a much longer recovery time had our laboratory still been in Boston’s Longwood Medical Area.
Thanks to everyone who rallied to fix our problem.
