Toys for Local Children in Bedford’s Pop-Up Toy Shop

December 18, 2019
Firefighter Matt Hansen (l) and Captain Mark Sullivan begin to stock Bedford’s Toys for Local Children pop-up shop with gifts donated by residents

The Bedford Fire Department has held a pre-holiday ‘Toys for Local Children’ drive for many years.

The department’s Administrative Assistant Sharon Cozzi says that three to five individuals stop by every day during the drive, depositing unwrapped gifts in the collection box in the fire station lobby.

The box always seems to have plenty of room for additional gifts. Captain Mark Sullivan explained that the collection box is emptied nearly every day, and indeed, dozens of black construction bags at the station were filled with toys.

All of the bags were brought to a local storefront on Wednesday afternoon, and the toys were displayed in a pop-up toy shop. The shop was open exclusively to clients of Bedford Youth and Family Services who were invited to choose holiday presents for their children.

After the pop-up shop closes, the remaining toys will be distributed to nearby programs.
