Bedford Kids Celebrate Chinese New Year at the Bedford Free Public Library

January 25, 2020
The Library maintains a significant collection of Chinese materials, with children’s books chosen by Shiouh-Lin Chang.

It’s the Year of the Rat, and the Children’s Library at the Bedford Free Public Library continued its tradition of celebrating Chinese New Year with crafts, treats, and kids’ books.

Sharon Wu’s calligraphy skills were in high demand

Shiouh-Lin Chang and Sharon Wu were in place, creating bookmarks with each child’s (or The Bedford Citizen’s) name inscribed with Chinese characters.

A team of Bedford High School students ~ Leonardo Chen, Ethan Lee, Alan Wang, and Farzzs Bukhari ~ manned craft tables ranging from the ever-popular ‘Chopstick Challenge’ and paper-folding to frosting and decorating cupcakes to honor the Year of the Rat.

Dozens of families turned up on a chilly afternoon where a sense of fun and camaraderie made it seem a lot warmer in the Library’s meeting room.
