The 2020 State Championship race will be at Berkshire East Ski Area on March 4th where over 300 Massachusetts high school ski racers (about 160 of each boys and girls) will compete for individual top 10 finishes and team State Championship in Slalom and Giant Slalom races.

By virtue of her conference title, Carluccio was also named to the Massachusetts All-State Team.  Carluccio is one of 12 Massachusetts ski racers who will compete at the Eastern High School Championships at Cannon Mountain the weekend of March 6th against high school ski racers from all of the Eastern and some Mid-West states.  This is the first time Bedford High School has sent a racer to the High School Eastern Competition.

Overall, the BHS Team had a successful season gaining experience as the Team had a large majority of freshman ski racers, many of whom are new to ski racing. Co-Captains, Jordan Alper and Libby Herzog provided experience and leadership during the season along with 1st year coach Eric Driscoll.

The Bucs boys squad was led by sophomore Jay Schwartz who had his second straight top ten Omega Conference finish. Schwartz had a tough start to the season not finishing his first 2 races and put himself in a position where he needed to put together 4 straight solid finishes in the last 4 races, as you need 4 finishes to qualify for the State Championships. In the last 4 races, Schwartz reeled off 4 straight excellent races with all top 10 finishes to place 9th overall in the Conference. The Omega conference boys had strong competition and was won by senior Travis Reardon of Lunenberg High School who took the title from a number of close competitors including the 2-time defending champion Jack Preston of Winchester.

The Bucs girls were led by Maggie Carluccio who captured the girls Omega Conference title in her 1st year of high school racing. Carluccio scored 398 out of 400 possible points with 2 1st place and 2nd place finishes and won a tiebreaker by virtue of her other finishes vs. another freshman racer, Ella Varnerin of Nashoba Valley Regional who also had to 2 1st place finishes and a top 4 race score of 398. The Omega girls division was extremely competitive as just behind Carluccio and Varnerin was junior Katie Bateman of Nashoba Valley Regional with 397 points (and the other 2 1st place race finishes). Taylor Riley 4th also out of Nashoba Valley Regional and Sarah Creamer 5th from Concord High School rounded out the top 5 in the girls division.  Bateman, Riley and Creamer all had top 10 or 20 finishes at last year’s State Championship races so the Omega Conference girls will be well represented at Berkshire East next week.  Nashoba Valley Regional will also be a contender for the State team championship.
