Late February’s spring-like weather and the Davis Road boardwalk were a definite Monday match, made for each other.
Reports of neighbors, Moms, and kids strolling along, high schoolers riding bikes to school, and The Citizen’s intrepid photographer safely taking time to pause and appreciate the vegetation in the White Cedar Swamp, have turned up on social media.
Public Works Engineer Adrienne St. John said that the guard rail will be installed in the next couple of weeks, and the porous pavement approaches will go in when the ground is warmer in a couple of months.
Even without its finishing details, the boardwalk is safer than walking alongside Davis Road in the stretch near the White Cedar Swamp, and St. John is pleased to hear that it’s being used.
The boardwalk began as a gleam in the neighborhood’s eye more than 20 years ago (click this link to read about the project’s history). The Transportation Advisory Committee got involved in 2017 (learn more here), and construction began last month (learn more here).
An opening ceremony and celebration will be scheduled once the entire project is complete, and when warm sunny days are more the norm.
