The Unofficial Results for Bedford’s 2020 Town Election

The election results were available within moments of the polls closing at 6 pm. Candidates and interested individuals were invited into the JGMS gym to hear the totals read from the machine tapes.

It’s official: Bedford’s Selectmen are now its Select Board, pending legislative approval on Beacon Hill. All the ballot questions prevailed, and those vote totals will be available later

In 2020’s only contested race, Edward M. Pierce and Bopha Malone became Bedford’s first elected Select Board members.

There were multiple innovations in today’s voting, from the arrangement of the physical space to allow for social distancing, to the presence of several recently-retired Town Clerks from surrounding communities to provide additional support.

And in the end, rather than the jostling cluster of candidates trying to read the voting machine tapes in the hall outside the polling place, the tapes were read aloud for easy access by everyone.

The sound of the candidate’s applause for the process and the election workers closed the evening on an appreciative note, within a very short time after the polls closed.

The following totals are unofficial. The final numbers including blanks and write-ins will be released by Interim Town Clerk Rosemary Harvell when they are verified.
