Carlton-Willard Village Reports Two Cases of Covid-19

In an update to its Preparedness Response to Covid-19 notice posted on the Carlton Willard website (www.cwvillage.org)  on Friday, April 17, two cases of the virus were reported.

Reached by telephone, CEO Barbara Doyle confirmed that a couple (husband and wife) living in a residential apartment tested positive for Covid-19 on April 15. The notice stated that contact tracing has been done by the CWV Outpatient Clinic and that there is no reason to believe that any residents or staff were exposed. The two individuals are doing well and remain in isolation at home.

Asked if any additional protective steps are being taken now that the virus has turned up at Carlton Willard, Doyle said that strict guidelines have been in place for a few weeks already. These include no visitors, no events or gatherings, the suspension of cluster home and apartment housekeeping, and the closure of on-premise cafes, the library, and art studio.

Employees are required to wear masks while at work and cloth masks have been provided to each resident to wear, for example, if shopping at the store on site.  Essential personnel and vendors are screened daily for symptoms including fever, cough, shortness of breath, or sore throat. Presently, a full complement of staff is reporting to work as usual.  Individual package deliveries to residents are still permitted but these delivery people are not subject to screening.

Residents are allowed to leave for doctor’s appointments or necessary trips to the store but have been asked to limit such trips if appropriate and possible.

The notice on the Carlton Willard website also included a “note of gratitude” from CEO Doyle. “The staff is working tirelessly to ensure the health and safety of our residents and each other.  Residents are adhering to the preventive guidelines, adapting to the restrictions and looking out for one another.  Our residents and their families, while having to bear the heavy burden of being separated, graciously check in with us to offer words of encouragement and gratitude,” her note said in part.  (The full text of Doyle’s message may be read by clicking on “Preparedness Response to Covid-19” on the landing page of the Carlton Willard website.)
