Shawsheen Tech School Committee Tables Search for New Superintendent

April 18, 2020

The search for Shawsheen Valley Technical High School’s next superintendent continued at the School Committee’s April 1 meeting, conducted remotely over Zoom.  The four finalists, Susan E. Kutska, Thomas F. Aubin, Kelly Fay, and Jenna Lesko, were selected from a larger list compiled by a screening committee, after which each was interviewed by the Committee.   On April 1, the members met to discuss the four final candidates for the position.

After the committee expressed a range of opinions, a motion was put forward to table the search, which passed 7-3.

School Committee member Paula McShane Lambert of Billerica shared her concerns, “My fear is that we don’t find qualified candidates going forward. And the next thing is I do understand that it’s a very trying time at Shawsheen, it’s a very trying time in many areas, and the reality is I don’t think we’re ever going to find a perfect candidate and I don’t think we’re ever going to find a candidate that is going to check all of our boxes for all of us.”

The committee meets again on April 28, when next steps will be discussed. Committee member Glenn McIntyre explained that there are no definitive next steps for the search process. They will have to decide whether to re-evaluate the four finalists, form a new screening committee, or take any number of alternative approaches.
