Taxes in the Year of Coronavirus and COVID-19

April is known for many things: spring flowers, rain showers, town celebrations like Pole Capping, religious celebrations like Passover, Easter, and of course, taxes.

Federal Taxes

Earlier this month the Federal Government announced it will delay the deadline for filing and paying 2019 federal tax returns to July 15, 2020. https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus

Commonwealth of Massachusetts Taxes

On March 27 Massachusetts followed suit and extended the deadline for paying and filing income taxes until July 15 as well.  https://www.mass.gov/news/massachusetts-announces-state-income-tax-filing-deadline-being-extended-to-july-15).

Town of Bedford Real Estate Taxes

Bedford’s Fourth Quarter Real Estate tax bills were mailed on March 31 and, according to the information on the bills, the payments are due on May 1.

Proposed legislation in the Massachusetts House and Senate to help towns manage their finances during the Covid-19 emergency could make a difference to the Town’s payment schedule. The Citizen will post an update if property tax bills are affected.
