Blasting will begin at Carleton-Willard Village between 10 am and 2 pm on Wednesday, May 20, and continue for several days.
A large streak of underground ledge is part of Carleton-Willard’s topography, and sits beneath Arlington Court’s new construction, with Bedford Court blocked off while the blasting is taking place.
Fire Captain John Daniels ensured that a Bedford Firefighter will be on-site every day when blasting is scheduled.
While abutters may notice a slight disruption, the blasting company has designed the blast to be only 1.0 PPV (Peak Particle Velocity), while the state allows for up to 2.0 PPV, essentially using a blast only half as intense as the state limitation.
Nearby personnel and residents will be warned of each blast by a series of preceding whistles.
The warnings are
- 3 Audible Signal Pulses – 5 Minutes to Blast
- 2 Audible Signal Pulses- 1 Minute to Blast
- 1 Audible Signal Pulse – All Clear
