With the knowledge that spring clean-up is ongoing, the Department of Public Works has rescheduled the curbside collection of yard waste to the week of May 11 and revised the schedule for the Compost Center.

Residents should place the yard waste out at the curb in tall paper bags or open barrels with no lids on Monday, May 11.

Acceptable yard waste for curbside collection consists of leaves, pine needles, grass clippings, garden trimmings, weeds, and tree material up to one inch (1″) in diameter. Any yard waste in plastic bags will be left behind. Republic Services will bring the yard waste to the town’s Compost Center.

“Put your yard waste out at the curb on Monday. Republic Services will be coming around at various times during the week,” said Ed McGrath, Bedford’s Recycling Coordinator. “Also, keep your yard waste bags well apart from your trash and recycling carts.”

Residents reporting a missed pick up of yard waste can call Republic Services Customer Service at 1-800-442-9006.

Compost Center Update

The DPW is keeping the Wednesday and Saturday schedule for the Compost Center, but with new hours from 8 am to 2 pm during May and June, but will be closed on Memorial Day weekend, May 23.

“The revised schedule runs through the end of June. The DPW will announce the schedule for July and some point forward in late June,” said McGrath. “We’re pleased to report that there were no issues the past two weeks at the Compost Center. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in keeping social distance.”

The Compost Center schedule is available on the DPW’s website at bedfordma.gov/recycling.
