Bedford’s Ryan Doucette Named Chair of Massachusetts Teenage Republicans

Ryan Doucette, the newly-elected chair of the Massachusetts Teenage Republicans is a Senior at Bedford High School a frequent writer for The Bedford Citizen. He is also active in Troop 194 as an Eagle Scout.

Meredith McCulloch, one of The Bedford Citizen‘s founders said, “Ryan has taken an admirable early interest in politics. To write for The Citizen he has had to learn quickly about the New England Open Town Meeting form of government. I have been impressed with how quickly he has understood and even embraced it. It has been a pleasure to work with him.”

Doucette began writing as one of the paper’s Student Voices columnists during his sophomore year at BHS, and quickly became a staff writer covering weekly board and committee meetings along with writing occasional columns.

In an email to The Citizen, Doucette wrote, “I was honored to be elected by my fellow members to serve as Chair of the Massachusetts Teenage Republicans for the 2020-2021 year. I always like to emphasize that even though the Massachusetts Teenage Republicans and many national leaders are in the same party, we do not believe that their way of conducting themselves is always the most effective or honorable.

“Even though Republicans in Massachusetts are outnumbered heavily by Democrat and Unenrolled voters, it is clear that common-sense Republicans can further effective policies and leadership, as seen in Governor Baker and Lt. Governor Polito,” continued Doucette.

“In my experience with the Massachusetts Teenage Republicans as Political Director from 2018 through 2020, we worked hand-in-hand with the Massachusetts High School Democrats on proposals that made sense, including urging lawmakers to delay the signature deadline which coincided with the Covid-19 pandemic. While much of our political climate today is hostile, I know my generation will be the one to buck partisanship and look to better our nation; and as Chair of the Massachusetts Teenage Republicans I look forward to continuing this aspiration.

“I am proud of my work with the Massachusetts Teenage Republicans and look forward to another successful year, he concluded.”

According to the Massachusetts Teenage Republicans website, “Ryan was first engaged in politics by his grandfather, the former Mayor of his town when Ryan would spend Summers at his house. Ryan, who is also a military child, has lived across the country and credits much of his success to the many perspectives he has seen moving around. While living in Virginia, Ryan became politically involved during the 2016 Republican Primary and worked in various campaigns until he moved to Massachusetts in 2018 where he worked as a Campaign Fellow for Governor Baker’s reelection campaign. Currently, Ryan serves as the Campaign Director for Representative Soter of Bellingham and has served as Political Director for the Massachusetts Teenage Republicans for the past two years. ”

Ryan considers himself “an overly-optimistic moderate” and is a supporter of a Republican Party that addresses long-standing issues in communities that are often under-served. As a steadfast believer in Capitalism, Ryan believes in supporting a free-market so the American Dream is accessible to all Americans.
