Bedford VA Medical Center was the recipient of 250 meals prepared by Burlington’s Pressed Café and donated by the Gary Sinise Foundation today to support local economies and healthcare workers.

Bedford VA Medical Center received 250 meals today from the Gary Sinise Foundation Emergency COVID-19 Combat Service, which committed to providing up to 20,000 meals to VA healthcare and frontline workers.

“Donations like this mean a lot to our VA staff, as they are on the front lines caring for our nation’s Veterans every day,” said Voluntary Service Chief Laurel Holland. “We are very appreciative of this donation during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The donated meals came from Pressed Cafe in Burlington and were distributed to staff on all inpatient units, pharmacy and housekeeping staff, and VA police officers.

“The Bedford VAMC staff give us motivation that goes beyond commerce for us to come to work every day,” said Pressed Café manager Paul Pitman. “We consider it a real privilege to help everyone out, especially these days. And to have such a prestigious and honorable foundation consider us is beyond words.”

Bedford VAMC, a state-of-the art medical center that provides a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services, is just one of more than 80 VA medical facilities across the nation that will receive the meals over the coming weeks.

“Donated meals come from restaurants near these facilities, stimulating the local economy and helping communities,” said Chief Operating Officer of the Gary Sinise Foundation Elizabeth Fields.

Since April 1, the Emergency COVID-19 Combat Service has been helping to meet the urgent needs of Veterans, first responders, military, healthcare workers and all those on the front lines of the pandemic through serving meals, providing personal protective equipment and donating decontamination equipment across the country.
