Recognizing Bedford Students in the Class of 2020 at Shawsheen Tech

Like countless seniors around the nation, Shawsheen Tech’s Class of 2020 has a distinctly unique Senior Year. This year’s graduating class includes 5 students from Bedford.

Editor’s Note: Thanks to Shawsheen’s Andy Pidgeon for helping The Bedford Citizen to recognize these students for their hard work and determination during their time at Shawsheen Tech. Graduation ceremonies are set for three evenings — June 16, 17, and 18 pending approval of the Billerica Board of Health. Final details will be released as soon as they are available.

Grace Clarke
Vocational area of study: Information Support Services & Networking & Programming & Web Development
Grace’s teachers described her as “hardworking, motivated, and supportive”. During her time at Shawsheen, she was a member of the National Honor Society, Oratory Club, Glee/Music Club, Student Council, and SkillsUSA. With SkillsUSA, a program that supports helping skilled workers enter the workforce, Grace competed in local, state, and national competitions, and was the president of Shawsheen’s SkillsUSA chapter. She was also a member of the Superintendent-Director’s Cabinet and Strategic Planning Committee. Grace was selected to give Governor Charlie Baker a tour when he visited the school the past year. She was a 4-year member of the softball team, and was chosen as captain in her abbreviated senior year. Grace will attend the University of Massachusetts Amherst this Fall, and will study Environmental Law & Policy.

Hendrick ‘Hank’ Couvee
Vocational area of study: Automotive Technology
Hendrick entered Shawsheen Tech with a passion for improving his skills in automotive technology. His teachers commend his drive and work ethic, especially in the field of auto tech. Throughout high school, he has worked at a cooperative educational job for his field of study, as well as at WL French Excavating. This Fall, Hendrick will attend SUNY Cobleskill to study Diesel Technology.

 

 

 

Hope Dessouvre-Jean
Vocational area of study: Information Support Services & Networking & Programming & Web Development
Throughout her time at Shawsheen Tech, Hope has excelled in school, extracurriculars, and in her trade. Her teachers commend her drive, strength of character, ambition, and passion for learning, and say she continuously participated in class and worked as hard as she could. She has participated in GSA, Ski Club, SkillsUSA, and Student Council. Hope qualified for a competitive internship and held a cooperative educational job in her Senior Year. This Fall, she will attend Wentworth Institute of Technology to study Computer Science.

 

Kyla Nicole Kelly-Uehling
Vocational area of study: Design and Visual Communications
Kyla began at Shawsheefter attending Hanscom Middle School in Lincoln. She has succeeded in academics, clubs, and sports as a member of the softball team, Art Club, SkillsUSA, GSA, and editor of the Yearbook Club. Her teachers commend her strong work ethic, drive, and passion for bettering both herself and her photography. Kyla has worked part-time during her time at Shawsheen, and hopes to continue to do so while attending Middlesex Community College to study education in the Fall.

 

 

 

Taylor Sacco
Vocational area of study: Medical Lab and Assisting
Taylor is a dedicated student with strong ties to both her school and community. She has been a 3-sport athlete all four years at Shawsheen, as a member of the soccer, swimming, and softball teams. She also excelled in school and extracurriculars as a member of the Student Council, Travel Club, and SkillsUSA, where she participated in competitions at the local and state levels. During her Junior and Senior Years of school, she has worked part-time and volunteered at local organizations. This Fall, she will attend the University of Massachusetts Lowell to study Public Health.
