Letter to the Editor: Bedford TV Remembers Jeff Hoyland

July 24, 2020

Submitted by Bedford TV

Early this week, Bedford said good-bye to one of its most cherished citizens. The staff and board of Bedford TV are crushed to hear of the passing of our beloved friend, Jeff Hoyland.

We will remember Jeff fondly by his innate generosity, as well as his ability to make Bedford kids feel really special. In the summer of 2019, the town came together to organize a surprise celebration for Jeff on National Camera Day, in order to thank him for his dedication to photographing Bedford’s youth over the years. Our students were psyched about this super-secret celebration for “Mr. Hoyland”, and jumped at the opportunity to record and edit the event. After the celebration, Jeff gave special thanks to one of our students, Healy Weisman, who followed him around catching close-ups of him and his adoring fans.

He later invited Healy to be his official Bedford Day “paparazza” and ride with him in his convertible during the parade. Then at our 2019 BTV Awards Ceremony, Jeff was awarded the 2019 Most Viral Award for the Camera Day video and made sure that we took a picture with him and his personal videographer. Though Jeff graciously accepted the award, he passed the award on to Raelene Houck, who was the mastermind behind the Camera Day celebration for Jeff.

The ease with which Jeff displayed his altruism to honor the value of others is most admirable. As we read through the many memories and notes of appreciation on Jeff’s social media accounts, it’s clear that Jeff brought an immeasurable amount of joy to others.

We’d like to share with you a tribute to our beloved Jeff (which is also included in our latest episode of Bedford TV News, along with a beautifully written tribute by Jenn Puhle), as well as the Camera Day video, his acceptance of the Most Viral Award at our 2019 Awards Ceremony, and his Citizen of the Year ceremony. WBZ also highlighted his positivity and remarked on his recent accomplishment as Citizen of the Year in this story, which aired in Fall 2019.

We also invite you to look at his wonderful photography on the Bedford Snapshots Facebook Page, as well as continue his mission to spread kindness to strangers by joining his Facebook group, Team Good Morning.

We welcome you to celebrate his life by reading An Appreciation written by Mike Rosenberg for the Bedford Citizen. You can learn more about Jeff in his Obituary.

We will miss Jeff dearly, and our thoughts are with his family during this time. Jeff was a true gem to the community and gave us a greater appreciation for this wonderful town and all the gifts we have to share.

Thank you for all you’ve given to us, Jeff. May you rest in peace.
