Plans for the tick fencing at the South Road soccer fields

In the DPW’s filing with the Bedford Conservation Commission, they described the tick fence project: “This project is proposed to reduce exposure to ticks from the wooded area along the westerly length of the South Road Fields.

“The 3-foot wide concrete strip will deter ticks from crossing into the play area, and the 450-foot long chain link fence will keep balls from rolling into the woods.

“Straw wattles have been placed for erosion control since the work is within the 50-foot buffer to the adjacent wetlands.”

Steel fence posts, set in concrete along the western edge of the field, will soon have a chainlink fence attached.

On Monday, a trench was dug along the western edge of the field and fence posts were installed in concrete footings.

Later in the week, the trench was filled with concrete; after it sets, chainlink fencing will be installed.
