Waiting in the rain at the DPW’s autumn Recycle Day in 2015

The Department of Public Works is hosting a pair of events for Bedford residents on the first two Saturdays of October.

Electronic waste will headline the collection on Saturday, October 3. Bedford residents will also be able to bring scrap metal, rigid plastics, tires, propane tanks, and expired fire extinguishers. The DPW is also working on a plan to include residential construction debris.

Paper shredding will take place on Saturday, October 10 along with the collection of sealed lead-acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, fluorescent lamps, and other items containing mercury.

“Last fall, we had 417 cars come to the event and we had to turn cars away,” said Ed McGrath, Bedford’s Recycling Coordinator.

“To accommodate everyone and to promote social distancing, we decided to hold two events this year.”

Further details of location, timings, and a full description for each event will be announced later in September.
