Our Common Values: Please Support The Bedford Citizen

September 29, 2020

Recently I joined a number of fellow residents on the Bedford Common to mark the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.  There was little ceremony; a gathering of people carrying candles and the reading of a short essay written by Ginsburg.  And yet the experience was satisfying.

The coming together, even with social distance and masks, to acknowledge the impact of her life was in the larger sense an affirmation of commonly held values that transcended partisan politics.  Some call this “Bedford being Bedford” – we show up, we show respect, we express our different opinions, we try hard to model civil discourse.  We don’t always get it right but we have high aspirations and we keep trying.

The Bedford Citizen supports these aspirations by bringing you reliable information about all that is going on in our busy, vibrant town.  Constructive civic engagement begins with facts and objective reporting to inform your decision making.  Whether you are preparing to attend Town Meeting, vote in a local election, or are concerned about a pending action before a town board, you need information you can count on.  This pandemic year in particular with the increased flow of news around what’s happening with Covid-19 in Bedford and how and when town business will be conducted during this period, The Bedford Citizen has been here for you.  Free, reliable, online.

Now we need to ask you to be there for us.  Will you please consider making a donation at this time?

Your contribution will support our newly hired community reporter as well as the other paid contributors who cover individual town board and committee meetings and special events.  It will enable us to keep our website up-to-date and user-friendly.  It keeps BeTC, the town calendar, up and running.  With your help, we can dream a little bigger and do our best to expand and enrich our coverage for our readers.  (And by the way, we want your feedback and ideas!  Email us at [email protected])

We know many of you have been steadfast in your support since The Bedford Citizen was founded in 2012 and we thank you.  If you’ve thought about giving but haven’t yet, we would welcome adding your name to our list of supporters.  Remember, you can donate as a sustainer and make your gift on a monthly basis or you can make a single donation at this time.  You can also earmark your donation in memory or celebration of someone you know who appreciates Bedford.   Either way, we are grateful for your contribution.  Thank you!

You can hit the DONATE button below to set up a monthly donation and/or pay with a credit card.

Or you can send a check to The Bedford Citizen, PO Box 212, Bedford, MA 01730.
