Superintendent Update – Letter to Families and Staff – Sunday, October 25, 2020

This afternoon we were informed by the Bedford Board of Health that the number of confirmed cases of COVID- 19 among the Bedford High School Community has remained consistent over the weekend (please note, the State of Massachusetts Department of Public Health MAVEN disease surveillance system, from which we receive data on confirmed COVID-19 cases, typically experiences delays in lab reporting on Saturdays and Sundays). Therefore, Bedford High School will continue to operate in the hybrid model at this time. As we have done throughout the pandemic, public health information will be reviewed daily, and assessed for decision making as it relates to our public school students, and community at large. We are indebted to the Bedford Board of Health for their work over the weekend tracking the positive cases and their close contacts. We also owe a debt of gratitude to the families who continue to communicate honestly with  our  community  health  officials. Working together provides the clearest picture of the path of the virus within our community.

We are cautiously optimistic that our continued use of the six-foot distancing, mask wearing, hand washing/sanitizing and cleaning and sanitizing of our school environment has kept us from having at-school transmission and therefore allowing us to remain in the hybrid model at BHS. However, we do know that there is more contact tracing work being done by the Board of Health and that we will continue to monitor the situation very closely. If our situation changes, which it could and would likely require a change in the learning model for the protection of the Bedford School Community, we will be back in touch with you.

We are very concerned about this situation and the potential for interruptions to  our current  educational  model. This is an opportunity for us as a community to increase our vigilance, be mindful that our actions impact not only ourselves and our families but others in the community, and take the necessary precautions to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 within Bedford. Please help us to do this so that our students can continue to come to school.

As always, thank you for your patience, your participation, and your continued commitment to our schools.

Wishing you continued health.
