Les Misérables ~ Coming to BHS as the 2021 Spring Musical

December 9, 2020
Auditions are underway, and performances are scheduled for May 2021

There will be a 60th annual Bedford High School musical, to be presented in May 2021.

It will be just a little different.

The first Zoom audition workshop took place this week for the epic sung-through musical Les Misérables (school edition), by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, based on the 1862 novel by Victor Hugo.

Because it is expected that the spread of Covid-19 will still be a threat in the spring, the musical will be filmed. Rehearsals will begin in January with taping planned for March and April. Then Les Misérables will be broadcast to all audiences on May 21 and 22.

The school edition, directed by Katrina Faulstich of the BHS performing arts faculty, is a shorter version of the original show, with adjustments made to the length and vocal pitch of several songs to support younger voices more appropriately.

The 2020 BHS musical was canceled 36 hours before opening night in early March when schools were closed and stay-at-home orders were issued statewide in response to the emerging pandemic.
